This pilot early-career training program announced in February 2021 by CASW, the Association of Health Care Journalists, and the Society of Environmental Journalists aims to build broad skill and diversity in specialized journalism.
The award is intended to encourage young science journalists by recognizing outstanding reporting and writing in any field of science. The winner receives $1,000 and travel expenses to attend the joint awards ceremony of CASW and the National Association of Science Writers.
CASW awards fellowships to students enrolled in U.S. graduate-level science writing programs to help defray the cost of tuition. Awards of $5,000 are available to fellows selected on the basis of a national competition.
