Annual Report 2022

CASW’s annual report for 2022 highlights a number of new and continuing partnerships and projects. Highlights include:

  • The launch of the Sharon Begley Science Reporting Award, an exciting new pinnacle career prize for mid-career science journalists;
  • The second class of National Science-Health-Environment Reporting Fellows, an early-career training program in collaboration with the Association of Health Care Journalists and Society of Environmental Journalists with generous support from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Department of Science Education and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation;
  • The return of the in-person ScienceWriters conference after a pandemic pause, with a vibrant program in Memphis, hosted by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and in collaboration with the National Association of Science Writers;
  • A pilot online mini-course in data and statistics reporting;
  • Exciting training and networking programs for science journalists in the Himalayas and Francophone Africa, funded with conference proceeds through the Spark Grant Initiative; and
  • Development of the CASW Connector database, a resource hub for science journalism and science communication.
