The Council for the Advancement of Science Writing (CASW) is thrilled to announce a $100,000 gift from the Heineman-Russell Family Foundation in honor of CASW Executive Director Rosalind Reid. Reid, who has given more than a decade of exemplary service to CASW, is set to retire later this year.

The gift will be used to establish a new CASW Fund for the Future of Science Journalism to support and develop science writing initiatives that advance CASW’s mission and impact.

The fund’s specific intent is to support the development and launch of new CASW programs. If necessary, the fund may be tapped to ensure continuity in key current CASW programs early in the tenure of the organization’s next executive director. A search is under way for this new leader.

The fund also is meant to encourage individual, foundation, and other gifts to CASW as well as to promote fundraising efforts by the new executive director.

CASW is deeply grateful for the generous Heineman-Russell Family Foundation gift from longtime CASW board member Cristine Russell and her husband, Ben Heineman.
