Betsy Mason is a freelance writer, the former science editor for Wired.com, co-author of NationalGeographic.com’s All over the Map blog, and a former Knight Science Journalism fellow at MIT (2015-16). Previously, she was an award-winning science reporter at the Contra Costa Times in the San Francisco Bay Area. She is a graduate of the Science Communication Program at UC Santa Cruz and has written about science for publications including Nature, Science, Discover and New Scientist. Before becoming a journalist, Betsy was a geologist, and has a master’s degree in geology from Stanford University and a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University. She also co-founded Wired.com’s Map Lab blog.
